Tour Map

This is the map I will be using for my dream vacation.
Arrowed Places are main attractions I'm planning to go.

Accommodation

Shanghai Pudong Shangri-La Hotel (5 stars hotel) is one of the most recognized hotels in Shanghai.  Due to its favourable location, it has an excellent views that other hotels do not have. I would choose the deluxe bund view guest room in the River Wing Building, so I can overlook the historical bund, the Huangpu River and the Pudong business district cityscape from my 180 degree window. Shangri-La hotel is more expensive compared to most of the hotels. However, I suppose accommodation is the most important part of my dream vacation, so I think Shangri-La is the best choice. Staying in a comfortable hotel will provide me and my family a sense of safety and more relaxed feeling, I believe it's worth it. (http://www.shangri-la.com/en/property/shanghai/pudongshangrila)

I'm excited to have a spa at Chi in Shangri-La Hotel. I have already read through the menu, and I would love to have the Futuresse Luxurious Face and Body Treatment. It offers 30-minute Aromatic Neck and Shoulder massage, a facial treatment and a full body salt scrub and oil message. It costs RMB 2,080 ( about 310 CND) for 2 hours 30 minutes.

Transportation

Shanghai Pudong Shangri-La provides easy access to Pudong international airport, so I don’t need to worry about how I’m going to catch my  flight back to Toronto. I will just need to get a schedule of the shuttle bus from the front desk, then get all my luggage packed and the hotel staff will help me to carry my luggage onto the bus.

Also, the Shangri-La Hotel is in a very convenience location that is close to the subways. I believe I won't have a problem to figure out how to take subway, since there are only 11 lines in Shanghai. Subway have connections all over Shanghai and almost all the stops are named by the main attractions, so I can  go to anywhere by following the map basically.

There are several types of subway tickets. Since I'm only staying in Shanghai for a week, I think single journey ticket is enough for me. Single journey ticket is better for people who don't take subway often.

Price of raking subway varies depends on the destination you go. As in the subway price table, the most expensive price is 4 RMB, which is less than 1CND. Subway is affordable and convenience for most people, so that's why people are more willing to take subway rather than having their own cars. My estimate of the budget for taking subway is around 20 RMB daily (about 3 CND).(http://www.travelchinaguide.com/cityguides/shanghai/transportation/subway-ticket.htm)

Main Attractions in Shanghai

Shanghai Bund & Huangpu River

Huangpu river is the most significant attraction in Shanghai, so all tourists must not miss the chance to take a look at this beautiful river view. The river divides Shanghai into half, west and east. It's interesting that there is an obvious difference between the two sides. On the west bank (first picture), there are many western-style buildings; while the east bank has a huge contrast in different architectural styles that many modern skyscrapers are built as the second picture shows. These characteristic buildings on two sides of Huangpu River become the best signature of development in Shanghai.

Nanjing Road
I can't wait to shop at Nanjing Road, since it's a must-see metropolitan destination that attracting all the tourists from all over the world. I can find modern shopping malls, theatres, and all different kinds of restaurants at Nanjing Road.

Yuyuan Garden
Yuyuan Garden was built in the Ming Dynasty, so I will be able to find the unique pavilions, halls, rockeries, ponds and cloisters in the garden. I'm sure I will be amazed by the six main scenic areas in the garden.

XinTianDi

XinTianDi is the ideal place for tourists to have a good view of the history, culture, and the modern lifestyle of Shanghai, and it's also a relaxed place for local individuals to spend the nights. Most foreign people love to hang out with friends at XinTianDi.

Night View of Shanghai Museum
Shanghai museum is well-known since it has a large collection of rare cultural pieces.
Good News: Shanghai museum go totally free. I'm glad that China has realized the real values of the cultural facilities.
Jin Mao Tower
Jin Mao Tower is the second tallest building in mainland China.
It has the best elevators that can reach the speed of around 30 feet per second. I wish I could try and see how much this elevator is faster than the normal ones.

Shanghai World Financial Center (SWFC)
SWFC is the tallest skyscraper in China.

Jade Buddha Temple
Jade Buddha Temple has been famous since it has many ancient sculptures, rare paintings and Buddhist scriptures. My mom is a Buddhist, so I'm sure she would love to come here.

As a relaxed sight-seer, I usually plan my trip independently. I love to have my own freedom to decide what I want to do, and when I feel like doing it. Knowing locations of all the main attractions, I can better manage my time to go as many as attractions while I can also explore the locals and culture.
